WHY DO YOU ACCEPT A LIMITED NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO WANT LESSONS EVERY OTHER WEEK? WHY ARE ONLY HOUR LESSONS AVAILABLE TO AT-HOME STUDENTS?
Students who see me every other week create an off-week that can only be filled by another student who takes a lesson every other week at the same time. I often have to turn away prospective students who want weekly lessons at a time that is already reserved for a student on an every-other-week schedule.
Lessons provided at the home of the student impact my teaching availability the most. For example, when I teach a student at his or her home at 4:00 pm, I may lose an hour or more. Even when the student's home is only 10 or 15 minutes away, my 3:30-4:00 pm and 5:00-5:30 pm slots are also taken up. A one-hour lesson actually takes up two hours of teaching time, even though I do not charge the student for two hours. (Depending on how long it takes to get to the student's home, at-home lessons range from 15% to 25% more than studio lessons.)
